Basic Metabolic Balance® Stewed Apple

There are many ways to eat your apple. One way is to have your apple stewed. When we cook apples they release extra pectin, a soluble fibre which works as a powerful prebiotic helping to feed and enhance the growth of beneficial bacteria and reduce the bacteria we don’t want. This makes dishes like stewed apples exceptionally useful for both helping our overall gut health and reducing inflammation. I like to use my stewed apples in a number of different ways. Some of my fav ways include:

  • Adding it to my to porridge or oats

  • Making a delicious and healthy apple crumble

  • Enjoying it warm or cold with yoghurt

  • Adding to a smoothie

  • Add to your nut and seed allocation

  • Use in your mandalade

Method for one serving.

In a small saucepan boil a 1/2 cup of water and add a teaspoon of good quality cinnamon and ginger if you want some zing. Cut your apple (organic green apple if possible) into cubes and add to the boiling water. Cover and cook for 10min. Be sure to check that your water isn’t drying up. If it does, add a splash more and turn down your heat.

Enjoy.
