Why I Won't Promote Diet Culture, But Still Believe in the Power of Food for Health: A Metabolic Balance Success Story

Diet culture gives me the ick. Especially anything driven by unqualified health enthusiasts telling you to follow their method or fitness plan to lose weight so you can look a certain way. However at same time, as a naturopath and nutritionist I know that food does play a role in health and what you do choose to eat can impact how you feel especially as we age. It seems to be an unpopular thing to say at the moment and I almost didn't want to post this testimonial due to the fear of being cancelled....

I always tell my clients especially anyone wanting to do MB with me, Im not in the business of helping you to be skinny. I haven't spent years and years doing a health science degree followed by additional training and education only to focus on how skinny my clients are.

As a naturopath I am not into anything that makes women feel like the objective of life is to be hot and skinny. The concept of being hot and skinny is bullsh*t. It has nothing to do with how healthy or wonderful you are. Your weight on the scales has zero to do with your overall satisfaction with life.

What does light me up however is helping women who are really struggling with their health and are on the verge of some serious health crossroads to turn things around. One of my beautiful clients wrote this testimonial about her experience on MB and it made me so happy. She is one of quite a few clients who have had their doctors refer them to see me (also my favourite thing is when awesome doctors see the value of shared care for clients). Her results have been so good. Im happy. Her doctor is happy and more importantly, she is happy and finally has energy to do all of the things she wasn't able to do for years. Plus, for now she doesn't have to go on any more medication (as per her doctors instructions).

Here is my clients experience.

“When I started Metabolic Balance it was about becoming healthier and if I lost weight that was a bonus. I was at the crossroads with a few serious health conditions and had to make a choice, more medications or attempt to reverse the path I was heading down. With my doctors help I found Carolyn and chose to do MB as the sensible way to turn things around and it worked. My blood pressure is lower, cholesterol is lower as are my blood sugars and pre-diabetic status. My GP is beyond happy I achieved this without medication and wants all of her patients to work with Carolyn haha. I have more energy, sleep better, no reflux and as a bonus I’ve lost weight – overall I feel much healthier. A big thank you to Carolyn for guiding me through Metabolic Balance , being so supportive and helping me to turn my health around”.

So yes, diet culture is bulls*t but please don't shame people who are needing to make changes to their diet for health. Not everything has to be so black and white. The online space makes everything feel so intense and final. Right and wrong. At the moment everything is about how bad restrictive eating is and that you should be able to eat what you want. Imagine how that makes the person who is sitting at their doctors office going through their test results and being told they need to do something now or face some serious consequences.

Health is different for all of us. Your experience and approach will be different to the next person. And thats ok.

So if you’re struggling right now and any of the above resonates with you, I highly recommend you book a free 15 minute discovery call with me to chat about if Metabolic Balance® is right for you. I am so passionate about sharing this program with people. It's not a fad diet. It’s not a miracle cure. It does take work from your end but the results are incredible and you will feel amazing.
