But first a word from me

I am always so grateful to work with clients. Being a naturopath and helping people is a privilege, it really is and the people who choose to work with me tend to be those who are tired of quick fixes and ready to take charge of their own health. This is admirable and should be celebrated because it takes effort - there is no magic pill that will do the work (don’t even get me started with the consequences of Ozempic). But you know what? Life is too short to spend it feeling flat and unwell and the one thing I know to be true is that while it can be hard to make change and start prioritising your health, what is harder is being sick. It is hard to be sick. It is expensive to be sick. It is hard to go through your day with no energy. It is hard to see your health decline as you age and to feel out of control. It is hard to look in the mirror and not recognise yourself. So it really is a matter of choosing your hard.

The good news. When you take the first step and commit to yourself, in a matter on months you could feel like a completely new person. And that’s why I really love using Metabolic Balance as one of my tools in my clinic.

Metabolic Balance helps to address the interconnected aspects of your health and help us to identify what's really the problem once we use diet to combat the symptoms and see whats going on. Think of your body like a swimming pool. When the water is cloudy and murky, it's hard to see what's happening beneath the surface. That's similar to how inflammation, blood sugar imbalances, and digestive issues can mask your body's true state of health.

Metabolic Balance is like systematically cleaning that pool through tailored nutrition. As the water begins to clear, we can see exactly what's going on underneath. Once we remove the 'murkiness' through targeted dietary changes, we can clearly identify and address any remaining health concerns. Just as you wouldn't try to fix issues in a cloudy pool without clearing the water first, addressing specific health concerns becomes much more effective once we've established this clear nutritional foundation. I prefer this than just throwing a lot of different  supplements into the pool hoping they will work.

I wanted to share a testimonial that I received in my inbox that had me dancing around the room. It was from a client of mine who not only committed to doing the work but also has made this a lifestyle and because of this, she is feeling the best she has ever felt even though she is in her 40’s and faces some health challenges. So here is her story. I haven’t edited it, I have left it as she sent it to me for you to read.

I highly recommend Carolyn Allen and her Metabolic Balance (MB) program! I was referred to Carolyn by a friend who achieved incredible results that I witnessed first-hand. So, I booked in a free discovery call with Carolyn, after which I felt confident that if anyone could help me, it was Carolyn. My primary goal was to improve my overall health after a blood test flagged subclinical hypothyroidism. I have always had great health, so this was quite a shock. My GP told me I would likely need to go down the path of lifelong medications, however I was determined to find a better way through diet and a healthy lifestyle. 

From the moment I started, Carolyn provided clear and expert guidance that made the process seamless, achievable, and exciting. The MB plan itself is outstanding; it is tailored uniquely to you and list specific foods you can eat in each food category using information gained from an in-depth consultation with Carolyn, as well as a broad range of blood tests. Your personal plan is extremely personalised and even goes down to specifics like what colour capsicum suits your unique profile (I’m a yellow capsicum btw😊). 

My friend’s advice to me was, if I committed to following my plan exactly and trusted the process, then I would definitely see results - and she was right!

The MB program itself is built on eight key foundations which themselves are excellent. Then layered on top of that is your personal plan. The program focuses on whole, real foods that are delicious and easy to prepare. There is a supportive private MB Facebook community page and an App that provides specific meal recipes tailored to your exact personalised plan (worked out through A1). I found these tools very useful initially, then got into a routine of what meals I like best and now have a rotation of favourites. There have been a lot of ideas of food combinations that I wouldn’t have even thought of and now enjoy, and it’s opened my eyes up to proteins and vegetables that I would never have even thought to try, so I now eat a much larger range of foods. There is no calorie counting, instead meals are worked out in portions. I found it interesting how little portions I actually require per meal, and yet I haven’t been hungry at all on the program – eating whole foods is really satisfying. 

Prior to connecting with Carolyn, I knew my health was heading in the wrong direction, but I just couldn’t seem to make any progress doing it on my own. No matter what I tried, including doing loads of exercise and strict calorie counting, nothing worked. The MB program and Carolyn were exactly what I needed, and the meal prepping has become a game changer for me. Investing a little time each week in shopping and prepping saves so much time, energy, and stress throughout the rest of the week.

What surprised me most was how much money I’ve saved while on the program. By sticking to my meal plan and using all the food I buy, I’ve drastically reduced food waste. Once I stocked up on the initial staples, my weekly grocery list became simple - just fresh proteins, fruits, and vegetables. It’s cost-effective, efficient, and has transformed how I approach food and cooking.

The impact on my health has been extraordinary. My energy levels have soared, and even with a busy schedule, I have felt more productive, less stressed, and far less anxious. Due to my thyroid situation and being in my late 40’s, I’ve really struggled with my weight over the past few years. I had put on a total of 20kgs in 4 years, which had a significant impact on my confidence to the point that I’d been withdrawing from social activities and absolutely dreaded the thought of having my photo taken. Previously I was very active socially and always loved having photos taken with friends. On the MB program, I’ve experienced steady weight loss (averaging a healthy 1kg weight loss per week). 

MB is not just a diet to do and then go back to how you were before MB, it’s a complete change in lifestyle. There are 4 stages to the process with the final stage being a maintenance stage. I’m about halfway through my journey of getting back to my ideal goal weight, at which stage I will re-do my blood tests and am looking forward to seeing what impact this will have had on my thyroid situation.
