Distance Reiki Sessions What To Expect
Firstly, a refresher on what Reiki is.
Reiki is a gentle Japanese healing practice that promotes deep relaxation and supports your body's natural ability to heal. Through light touch, a Reiki practitioner helps channel life force energy - the vital energy that flows through all living things. When this energy flows freely, we feel balanced, healthy, and vibrant. But when it becomes blocked or depleted, we might experience stress, illness, or fatigue. Reiki helps restore this natural flow, bringing you back to a state of balance and wellbeing.
What Happens in a Reiki Session
While you rest comfortably and fully clothed on a treatment table, I'll use gentle hand placements to channel healing energy. Starting at your head, my hands will move through specific positions, each helping to release tension and restore flow. These positions correspond with your body's energy centers, or chakras, creating a systematic approach to balancing your entire system.
Working intuitively, I'll spend extra time where your body needs additional support. Some areas might feel warm or tingly under my hands - this is completely normal and indicates energy movement. Other areas might feel cool, showing where energy needs to be revitalised. Throughout the session, you might notice sensations of deep relaxation, gentle pulsing, or waves of release moving through your body.
The beauty of Reiki lies in its responsiveness - the energy naturally flows to where it's needed most, whether that's calming an overactive mind, soothing physical discomfort, or releasing emotional tension. All you need to do is relax and receive.
How does Distance Reiki Work
If you’ve never done it before, the practice of distance reiki might sound a little strange. Surely in order to receive a healing treatment you have to be in the same room as your practitioner? Interestingly, this isn’t the case. Just like your phone can receive signals without wires, Reiki energy works beyond physical space. Our energy fields extend beyond our physical bodies. This is why distance Reiki can be just as effective as in-person sessions. In fact, many clients feel like remote sessions are even more powerful as it allows them to stay in their own comfortable space without having to travel anywhere. It also allows you to integrate back into your day at your own pace without having to quickly re-engage and get back to “life”. You’re able to exit the zoom call and take your time and if it’s available to you, you can extend the healing time by having a nap or savasana (like at the end of a yoga class). This allows you to go even deeper into a relaxed state of mind and body.
The other thing often reported is distance reiki brings a high level frequency and vibration to your home working to clear your physical space. Who doesn’t need that.
Who Prefers Distance Reiki
So who tends to prefer distance reiki? This varies and of course there are many who prefer in person sessions, but it has been my experience that if you tick any of these boxes, distance reiki might be a better option for you.
You are a busy person who struggles to make in-person appointments so you tend to just not book anything in at all
You prefer healing from home
You are someone who experiences anxiety about leaving home
You want to experience deep relaxation without travel so you can drift off to sleep after
You want to use reiki to complement your existing health practices
Some of the benefits clients experience from Distance Reiki sessions include
Deep relaxation and stress reduction
Better sleep quality
Emotional balance
Enhanced energy levels
Clearer thinking
Reduced anxiety
Support for your body's natural healing processes
Allow you to go deeper with your naturopathic treatment
How to Set Yourself Up For a Beautiful and Healing Session
The aim here is to be able to transform any room into a healing sanctuary. To do this I would like you to:
Choose a quiet space where you won't be disturbed
Set up a comfortable place to lie down. This might be your couch, bed, or yoga mat
Make sure you have pillows for head and to put underneath your knees for support
Have a blanket (many people feel cool during sessions)
Have dim lighting or candles
An eye mask or a hand towel you can place over your eyes (if you’re comfortable with this)
Have gentle background music. Spotify has some beautiful playlists you can listen to if you search Reiki.
If you have a diffuser, pick your favourite oil and have that diffusing in the room. The other option is to have incense or a candle. I love the brand Perfect Potion for oils and Ikou for oils and candles.
If you use crystals, it can be really nice to place these near you
Have a glass of water ready for after the session
How To Prepare For Your Session
24 Hours Before:
Increase water intake
Reduce caffeine if possible
Note any specific areas needing attention
One Hour Before:
Try not to eat a big meal. It's even better if you can wait until after the session.
Wear loose and comfortable clothing. You keep your clothes on during the session so make sure you feel comfortable in whatever you are wearing
Go to the bathroom before the session
Turn off your phone and leave in another room
Take a few calm and centering breaths
Remind yourself that this healing is powerful and you are coming to the session with an open mind
During Your Session
Before the session, you will be sent a zoom link. At the time of your session, log into zoom. We will then have a quick chat about how you’re feeling and if you have any health concerns you would like me to be aware of.
I will then invite you to lay down and close your eyes. From here your job is to breathe, relax and simply receive. There is no need to try or to concentrate on anything. Just lay down and breathe. That's it. You can’t “think” your way into healing through reiki.
During the session, you might experience any of the following:
Warmth or tingling
Gentle pulsing sensations
Deep relaxation
Floating feeling
Temperature changes
Emotional releases
Insights or clarity
Peaceful drowsiness
Memory flashes
Nothing at all (still working!)
Straight after your session I would like you to take your time and if you can, drift off for a little bit. If you can’t, make sure you slowly return to your normal day to day activities. Please make sure you drink plenty of water and honour what your body needs. You might want to journal for 5 minutes, rest or even go for a walk. Whatever you feel like doing I just want you to pay attention to what YOU need.
For the next 2 days I would like you to:
Stay hydrated
Pay attention to any changes with your sleep, energy, emotional state and physical sensations.
For some, they will immediately feel different. For others, it might be subtle changes over days. All of it is normal. Reiki works on everyone.

The final thing I would like you to know about your reiki experience.
Every session is unique because every person is unique. There's no "right" way to experience Reiki. Your body knows exactly what it needs and will take what serves it best in that moment. All healing journeys are different. You might find that sessions vary too. Just show up with an open ming and remember. This is your time for deep healing. Whether you're new to energy work or experienced in holistic practices, distance Reiki is a beautiful and powerful way to support your wellbeing, all from the comfort of your own space.
